About This Minecraft Build

A small wooden-fenced wheat farm plot — about 3x4 in footprint, surrounded by Spruce Trapdoors used as low walls, with a center of Wheat Crops growing on Farmland. There's a single Lantern post at one corner for nighttime visibility and a small water trench running through the middle to keep the crops hydrated. It's the most utilitarian build in the set: a survival-ready food source dressed up just enough to look intentional.

18 steps total. Perfect first farm for any survival world — 11 wheat plants will produce enough bread for a single player indefinitely, and the fenced design keeps mobs and wandering villagers from trampling the crops. The build pairs naturally with Tiny Cottage or Smithing Cottage as the food source for those buildings' inhabitants. Add 2-3 of these side by side and you have a small village's harvest plot.

Builder's tips

  • The 11 Farmland blocks are the actual crop tiles, but they need to stay hydrated to keep growing. The single Water block goes in a trench that touches every farmland block within 4 tiles. Skip it and dry farmland reverts to dirt — crops die.
  • The 12 Spruce Trapdoors form the low fence around the plot. Place them in their vertical-open orientation so they read as woven willow-branch farm fence (not a tall solid wall). Waist-high reads decorative; tall reads sheep-pen.
  • The 11 Wheat Crops have to be planted from Wheat Seeds (drops from grass) and grow over real-time minecraft days. In creative you can place them already-mature for the screenshot. In survival, plan for 1-2 days of growing time.
  • The single Lantern post (Stripped Spruce Wood as the post) keeps the plot lit at night — important because crops only grow with sufficient light. Without the lantern, growth halts overnight.
  • The 9 Spruce Stairs form a small raised walkway around the plot's edge so the farmer can tend crops without stepping on them. Walking on farmland turns it back into dirt.
  • The 2 Dark Oak Fences are the gate posts. Add a Fence Gate between them (free, not in the list) so the farmer can actually enter the plot.
  • Add a Composter at one corner (also free). Excess wheat stems go in for bonemeal — survival-functional and visually adds another working detail.
